Answers from authorities

As part of our project, we have contacted 339 Swedish authorities and asked them about their collection on user data and information from other actors. This has been done in two steps, and the results of those steps is shown below. For more in-depth information about this process, please read our journal.

Step one was a survey with a simple question asking if they had requested data about users from IT&Telecom companies or if they had requested take-downs of user-uploaded content. We asked all the agencies the same two questions to obtain a comprehensive picture of the frequency of requests. We did not expect that all of these agencies would handle this type of operations. This question was answered by 132 authorities. The second questionaire was more extensive, and was only sent to organizations that anwered affirmitavely on the first questions. On the pages listed below you will find lists of authorities that belong to each category. These are currently in Swedish, but will be available in English translations in the future.

An affirmative answer on survey 1 means that the authority has at some point asked for user data from another actor. A negative answer means they have not. For survey 2 we show who has participated. We also disclose all authorities that have yet to answer our inquiry, and those to which we have made formal requests according to the Swedish Principle of Public Access.
